Ostdeutsche Zeitung
Interesting document – offered as bill of exchange but actually it has nothing to do with such bills. It is a confirmation that Hermann Kennemann from Klęka invested the amount of 100 Thalers as a silent partner in a company set up in order to publish newspaper in German language. The company published Ostdeutsche Zeitung, known later as Posener Tageblatt from 1862 until 1939.
The investor named in this document, Hermann Kennemann aus Klenka, the biggest landowner in the Province of Posen, was well known for his very conservative views and (diplomatically speaking) unfriendly attitude towards local Poles. He was one of the founders of Deutsche Ostmarkenverein, known (from first letters of its founders names: Ferdinand v. Hansemann, Hermann Kennemann und Heinrich v. Tiedemann) as HKT or Hakata – German organization which was notoriously nationalist and anti-Polish.
