Włodawa, EU frontier
Weekend trip to the eastern frontier of European Union. Today Włodawa is a small frontier town – on the other side of the river is Bielarus, but there is no official crossing or customs. There was used to be a railway line going East but the bridge has been demolished after 1945 by Soviets in order to keep their happy citizens from bad influence of those poor souls not privileged enough to live in “workers and peasants” paradise 😉
During the Soviet period border controls were very tight in order to stop any unauthorized contacts – along the whole Polish – Soviet border there were only two checkpoints open to normal citizens: Brześć and Medyka.
